Resistor

Resistors

Resistors are electronic components that serves to set or keep the current flowing strong. The units are ohm resistor (Ω).

Fixed ResistorsFixed resistor is the resistor resistance value is not changing, and the amount of prisoners who had symbolized by the color of a circle located throughout the body. Fixed resistors are generally made of carbon materials. Fixed resistors consist of two types namely kesil resistors with power, and resistors with a large power.
Resistors are helpless little resistance values symbolized by the color code, while having great power symbolized by the numbers.

Ring 1 = Orange
Ring 2 = Red
Ring 3 = Yellow
Ring 4 = Gold
So the summary is:
 R = 320000Ω = 320kΩ / 5%

5 Color
Ring 1 = Red
Ring 2 = Red
Ring 3 = Black
Ring 4 = Red
Ring 5 = Chocolate
So the summary is:
R = 22000Ω = 22kΩ / 1%

Conductor, Insulator, Semiconductor.

Conductor
Conductor is a device or material that can deliver an electric current. A good conductor is a material having a very small resistivity. In general, the conductive material is metal. Gold, silver, copper, aluminum, zinc, iron in a row has resistivity greater. So the material that has the best conductivity is gold, but because the price is very expensive, the copper and aluminum are economically the most widely used.

Insulator
Insulator is the type of material has a very large resistance, so that he can not deliver electricity and heat. Insulator is usually used to inhibit the flow of electricity which is used on the cable. isolator consisting of non-metal materials such as plastics, ebonite, paper, human body, water, soil.

Semiconductors
Semiconductor is a material that has electrical conductivity in between insulator and conductor.A semiconductor will have properties as an insulator at very low temperatures, but at room temperature besifat as a conductor. The most common semiconductor material used is silicon, germanium, and gallium arsenide.
Very useful in the field of semiconductor electronics, because conductivity that can be altered by injecting another material (usually called the material doping). Semiconductors are the types of materials most widely used and very important in electronic components.

Variable Resistor (Linear Resistor)

 Resistors is not fixed resistors having resistance values that can be altered according to the needs required. Changes may be made by rotating or sliding shaft that is already provided (linear), but there are also changes in the value of resistance will be influenced by the surrounding circumstances (nonlinear) such as temperature, light, sounds, etc., so it can be used as an automatic switch. Here I will discuss about linear resistor.

Potentiometer

Potentiometer is a component of the voltage divider resistance value can be set in accordance with the desire by rotating the leg / trunk. Dituslis resistance value in the form of numbers and can be seen on the body of the potentiometer. Suppose written 50k potentiometer which means it has a 50 kilo-ohm resistance. potentiometer is usually used for bass tone controls, treable, volume.
Several types of potentiometers:
  • Linear potentiometer  can produce devices with a resistance between the wiper with one terminal is proportional to the distance between the two because it has a resistive element with constant cross-section. Linear potentiometer used if desired proportional relationship between the rotation axis with the division ratio of the potentiometer, for example controllers are used to set the oscilloscope screen center point.
  • Logarithmic potentiometer has a resistive element to the lower or made from materials that have resistivity varies. This gives a resistance device is a logarithmic function of the potentiometer shaft angle. Most of the potentiometer log (especially the cheap) is actually not really logarithmic, but uses two linear resistive path to mimic logarithmic law. Log potentiometer can also be made by using a linear potentiometer and an external resistor. Potentiometer is really very expensive relative logarithmic. Logarithmic potentiometers are often used in audio devices, especially as the volume control.
  • Rheostat resistor is often used to handle high currents and voltages and has two terminals are not fixed. Rheostat usually made of resistive wire wrapped around to form a toroid coil with a blower that moves at the top of the toroid, and touched the coil windings of one coil to the next. Three-teminal potentiometer can be used as two-terminal resistor is not fixed by not using a third terminal. Often a third terminal connected to the terminal is not used mops to reduce the resistance fluctuations caused by dirt.
  • Digital potentiometer is an electronic component that mimics the functions of analog potentiometers to be implemented on a digital signal.
Trimpot

Trimpot (Tripotentiometer) is a variable resistor which has functions such as potentiometer but it has a small physical form and has a resistance value that can be foxes but by using small tools such as screwdrivers, because to change the resistance value could not use his hands. As a prisoner resistance materials is to use carbon or charcoal.
